The Tractatus brevis de modis distinctionum —edited for the first time— develops what, in historical terms, is a highly influential theory of how to distinguish between and how to identify elements of reality. The author elaborates upon theories relating to this subject as found in the works of John Duns Scotus and others, though goes further than his predecessors and works out an original classification of the various kinds of distinction and identity.
